This is an hour of mat Pilates built around the things that actually change how a week feels: a core that works with your breath, a pelvic floor that is neither ignored nor over-gripped, and a spine that can move in every direction it was designed for. John keeps the groups small so that everyone gets seen.
Fifteen minutes of breath and alignment on the mat.
Core sequences built in progressions of three.
Side-lying hip and glute work.

Pilates trains control rather than range. The movements are small, repeatable and specific, and the work happens in how precisely you do them rather than how far you go. That makes it unusually good for anyone rebuilding strength after pregnancy, surgery or a long stretch of sitting.
A quarter of the class is spent on breathing, because the diaphragm and the pelvic floor move together whether or not you are paying attention. Learning to feel that relationship is the single most useful thing most people take from this class.
Deep core work
Not crunches. The muscles that actually hold you up.
Pelvic health
Taught plainly, by someone who takes it seriously.
Breath first
The breathing pattern comes before the movement, every time.
Wear something you can move in and bring socks with grip if you have them. Tell John before class if you are pregnant, recently postnatal or managing an injury, and he will adjust the plan rather than ask you to sit anything out.

Charlotte Wren
Two years post-partum and nobody had explained any of this to me. John taught the breathing before anything else and the rest suddenly made sense. My back pain has gone.

No. Every class is taught with options rather than expectations, and our Fundamentals and Gentle sessions assume no prior practice at all. Tell your teacher it’s your first time and they will look after you.

Fifteen minutes before your first class, and around five for every class after that. It gives you time to check in, settle and set up your mat without rushing.

We do. Several of our teachers are qualified in pre and postnatal practice and in therapeutic yoga. Let us know before class so your teacher can adapt the session for you.
